Her I will attempt to explain what I look for in a mini lop rabbit

Springtyme Jack

When I look for a mini lop of good standard,I always start with the overall balance of the animal.
It should sit pround and evenly.
The head is the most prominant feature of the breed and should have a high wide crown and broad forhead.
The cheeks should almost look like they have been stung by a bee,big puffy cheeks is what I like!
The side profile of the rabbit should not be pointy by any means and should have a squashed affect to it,thats where they get their cuteness.
Bucks will have more of these features more so than does, but I have seen a doe or 2 which I have mistaken for a buck.
The overall body should be short, round and cobby, breeding does should have a slightly longer body, wide pelvis and straight hocks for less birthing difficulties.
The chest should be strong and noticable as well as the shoulders being wide and the same width as the top of the hindquarters.A neck is a no no.
The head of the rabbit should be like a ball sitting straight onto another larger ball(the body).
The ears should be set straight down alongside the cheeks forming into a horseshoe like appearence..They should be of an average length not too short and not too long,to be well furred and rounded at the bottom. The base ridge of the crown( and also start of the ear) should be sitting evenly with the top of the eye of the rabbit.Any ears which sit higher will shorten the crown and will carry the ears in a non fashionable manner
The feet of the rabbit should be short, well furred underneath along with sitting straight, front and back.
Eyes should be bold, alert and free from mucus.
Teeth should sit in a scissor bite, not butting or undershot. This is called malocclusion or elephant tusk and can be fatal to rabbits. The teeth will continue to grow in the wrong direction and will cause loss of interest in eating or even worse,an abscess.Malocclusion is quite common in mini lops as their face is alot more shorter than other breeds.
Rabbits with the problem should not be bred at all.
The coat should have a good amount of guard hairs to give a good roll back effect.Lack of guard hairs will give the rabbit a lifeless and dull look with no or little rollabck and toomany guard hairs will give the mini lop a flyback effect which is not desired.
